چکیده

An experiment was performed on the delay effect and flap survival in the rat. When the flap was delayed with a teflon sheet, there was greater improvement of vascularity and flap survival than in the group that was delayed without the use of a teflon sheet. INTRODUCTION Oral surgeons have been troubled by Dap necrosis occurring after the transplantation of the pedicle Dap which plays an important role in head and neck reconstructive surgery. The term "delaying a Dap" is frequently used in the field of reconstructive surgery to indicate that the Dap is being developed and transferred in more than one single stage to ensure its safety. Hypotheses with regard to the delay phenomenon so far reported can be summarized as follows: I) Delay enables tissues to be conditioned for ischemia, which makes it possible to survive on less blood flow as compared to normal need 1,2). 2) Delay improves vasculariti,4 1 in the transplanted flap. In either case, the purpose of the delay is to keep the flap alive by adapting it for a state of relative hypoxia which takes place when it is raised and transplanted. Williams (1973), who introduced a surgical technique specific for performance of delay, i.e., insertion of a sheet of silastic beneath the Dap, reported that this simple technique can fortify the delay efficacy, and that arising complications can thereby be prevented. The author et al. examined the effect of a teDon sheet inserted under the Dap upon elongation and also its role in improving the vascularity of the Dap. MATERIALS AND METHODS Sixty wistar strain male rats aged 8 weeks and weighing 260-300 gm were employed, to the dorsal part of which a single pedicle Dap sized 1.5 X 6 cm and based on caudal side was Received for Publication May 14. 1981

Effect of Systemic Antioxidant Allopurinol Therapy on Skin Flap Survival

BACKGROUND It has been reported that systemic administration of allopurinol improves cell survival. This study was aimed to evaluate effects of allopurinol on skin flaps in dogs. METHODS Twenty dogs underwent one skin flap surgery with a 2-week interval. The first procedure was performed according to the standard protocols. The second phase was started by a 1-week pretreatment with all...

Fibroblast Growth Factor-1 vs. Fibroblast Growth Factor-2 in Ischemic Skin Flap Survival in a Rat Animal Model

BACKGROUND One of the main challenges in skin flap surgery is tissue ischemia and following necrosis. The present study compares the effects of fibroblast growth factors 1 and 2 on increasing cutaneous vasculature, improving ischemia, and preventing distal necrosis in ischemic skin flaps in rat model. METHODS Thirty rats were allocated into 3 groups (n=10) and 2×8 cm dorsal rando...

The Effect of Enoxaparin and Clopidogrel on Survival of Random Skin Flap in Rat Animal Model

BACKGROUND Necrosis of skin flaps is considered as an important complication in reconstructive surgery. We conducted an experimental study to investigate the efficacy of low-molecular weight heparin, clopidogrel and their combination to improve the flap survival. METHODS Forty male, adult Sprague-Dawlay rats were divided randomly into 4 groups. Standard rectangular, distally based dorsal ran...

Improved viability of random pattern skin flaps with the use of bone marrow mesenchymal-derived stem cells and chicken embryo extract

Objective(s): Covering tissue defects using skin flaps is a basic surgical strategy for plastic and reconstructive surgery. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of chicken embryo extract (CEE) and bone marrow derived mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSCs) on random skin flap survival (RSF) in rats. Using chicken embryo extract can be an ideal environment for the growth and proliferation ...
